According to the buddhist philosophy, our perception and judgment of perceived phenomena perceived is mistaken. Based on this, we create an idea of a permanent self. These assumptions lead to suffering. Besides studying and reflecting philosophical texts, a tamed mind is necessary to overcome mistaken perceptions. The practice of meditation is a key method to gain a direct experience on how things actually are. One aspect of meditation is the performance of rituals. Such old tradition is vividly alive in the Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal.
